The creation of Vivien Teu Law Practice is the culmination of more than two decades of legal practice at the intersection of finance, capital markets, and sustainability.
With more than 25 years of in-depth experience in capital markets, financial institutions and asset management industry, financial services, financial and securities regulatory matters, funds formation, investment and finance transactions, Vivien is market leading in her focus on ESG legal and regulatory issues, increasingly integrated into her advisory and transactional practice.
Vivien began her career in leading international and regional firms, including Clifford Chance and Deacons, before taking on senior in-house legal roles, notably as Head of Legal, Greater China at global asset management firm Invesco. She later founded and led Vivien Teu & Co LLP, a Hong Kong firm with established reputation and accolades in the areas of investment funds, banking & finance, financial services, regulatory, private equity, private equity funds, private client and wealth management. Most recently, she served as Partner and Head of Asset Management & ESG at Dentons Hong Kong, where she held global leadership roles, including Global Sustainable Finance Lead on the Global ESG Steering Committee, ESG Lead for the Global Financial Institutions Practice Group, and member of the Global Funds Leadership Group.
While advising the financial services sector globally, Vivien recognised a growing need to align capital with sustainability, responsibility, and purpose. Over time, she developed a market-leading focus on ESG, sustainable finance, responsible investment, impact investing, and social finance. Since launching her ESG and impact law practice in 2018, Vivien has advised across the spectrum of capital on ESG issues for different asset classes, public and private markets, for-profit, non-profit organisations or hybrid structures, and range of sustainable financing instruments and ESG or impact fund structures. She has been active in impact ecosystem building, contributing to standard setting and industry engagements on sustainability, ESG and impact issues, specifically in the investment and capital markets, from regulatory, legal and policy perspectives.
Vivien’s work has been recognised with industry accolades, including Thought Leader of the Year, North Asia at the ALB Women in Law Awards 2021, multiple commendations from Asialaw Profiles as a leading lawyer in investment funds and corporate M&A, and inclusion in China Business Law Journal’s A-List Elite 100 Foreign Lawyers for China practice in 2020 and 2021.
The launch of Vivien Teu Law Practice marks the next chapter in this journey – a specialist, impact-focused firm dedicated to financial services, asset and wealth management, investment funds, sustainable and social finance, impact investing, and philanthropy. It is a platform not only for legal excellence but also for ecosystem building, innovation, and capacity development, supporting clients in achieving financial goals while driving positive change in the world.
